About this race:
Spina bifida (literally, ‘split spine’) is often diagnosed at the 20-week antenatal scan. Many of our members use a wheelchair full time, experience bladder and bowel difficulties which require catheterisation and medication and have loss of skin sensation. Spina bifida also affects brain development, impacting learning and behaviour. Struggles with memory, attention, processing information and planning can make daily life challenging.
Shine’s specialist advisors provide support on a range of issues including support and development, early intervention, health, education and benefits. This enables members to take informed decisions on their care and gives them the confidence to tell their stories.
