About this race:
As the UK’s leading charity for people affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus we are proactively reaching out to our members during this crisis, to ensure that they have access to all the information and services they need. In this way, we can provide the additional expert advice and support that our members may require due to their increased vulnerability.
Ultimately, right now, Shine’s role is to ensure we can keep our members alive and well through the COVID-19 crisis.
Shine is almost entirely funded by the generosity of the general public. Our balloon races make a significant contribution to our funds every year. By sponsoring a balloon you would be helping us to continue to provide the vital services our members urgently need.
Our balloon race is a fun way to make a serious difference. It’s virtual and takes place online, launching on 5th July 2020.
The date and launch site of this balloon race are of special significance. The race will start at Park Hospital (now Trafford General Hospital) in Manchester where on 5th July 1948 the NHS was founded, making healthcare accessible to all.
During this crisis our priority remains the health and wellbeing of everyone who is affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus and any associated conditions. Your donation would make a real difference to our members and help us to alleviate the unprecedented pressure on the NHS and social care system.
