About this race:
Shine is the national charity supporting people affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Spina bifida literally means 'split spine' in Latin, it occurs in very early pregnancy is one of the most severe coditions compatible with life. Hydrocephlaus, otherwise known has 'water on the brain' commonly occus alongside spina bifida, although can occur at at any time, and if left untreated, can be fatal.
This year two babies a day will be diagnosed with spina bifida and 1 in 1000 children will be affected by hydrocephalus.
